David Hockney - Artist Review

Updated: Jan 19, 2020

David Hockney is a British painter, famous for his contribution to the pop art movement of the 60's. His colourful pieces are instantly recognisable, and he is especially known for his depictions of water, more commonly, swimming pools. My focus of this project, however, is Hockney's work with portraiture and photography.

In the 70's, Hockney experimented with pushing the boundaries of a 2D Polaroid photo by playing around with grid formations in collage. Editing the portraits in such a way, added a new dimension to the photograph without over complicating them. This method of composing a piece was simple but highly effective and is something I would like to try, not just with photography, but with drawings and paintings aswell.
