Ralf Broegs art is a hybrid of mediums such as print, paint and drawing, often found in series. He has a strong interest in 3D and graphic work, with many of his pieces being finished digitally. His series' are a collection of pieces that all follow the same theme but with slight variations. Broeg often enlists the help of fellow artists or companies to assist him which is apparent in his zine work with lecturer and artist Lothar Goetz.
Zero RPM records is one of my favourite series' by Ralf Broeg. Each piece is formed from a vinyl record, that has been etched to reveal each line on the surface. the records are the painted, printed, scanned and digitally edited to remove labels or imperfections. Broeg accounted how different genres produced different patterns, for example, a techno record would be a lot more interesting to look at than a dance record.
Broeg dives in to some site specific art for 'Les Fluers Plastiques', which included sculpture and digital imagery. The same geometric shape can be found throughout this exhibition which is a shape that occurs throughout Broeg's projects, such as Modellraume, in which the shape encompasses speakers hung from the ceiling of a Metro underground.
MB-106" and MB-83" is a slupture piece designed by Ralf to move at an un-noticeable rate. This piece was specifically designed for the people in the surrounding offices, who are the only people who would be around the piece long enough to view it from its many different angles. This is by far my favourite piece by this artist as the concept is fascinating to me.
Overall, I really enjoyed Broeg's artist talk. Although, this style of work is not something I can relate to, I really admire the creativity, concept and throughout process of each piece.
